National examination Council of Tanzania (NECTA) is the instution in Tanzania that is responsible for National examination in Tanzania, it was brought up basing on parliamentary Act No 21 of 1973. The institute works for all National examination in Tanzania with the aim of creating NECTA so that to follow an earlier move in 1971
Before there were one examination that was done East Africa wide that was conducted by EAEC which was known as East Africa Examination Council where the Government had to establish their own examination body known as NECTA
Leiter also Zanzibar pulled out East Africa Examination Council in 1970 and 1971 before the pull out between 1968 and 1971 where Secondary school examinations conducted jointly by East Africa
